In this clip, Donald Miller talks about how his church tries to reach their community not only be preaching the gospel, but also trying to apply the truths of God to a person's whole life. In Portland, where he lives, this has resulted in a gardening ministry and a housing ministry:
Applying the same thinking to what we do as a church, what's important to Lexington as a community? Probably not organic gardening like in Portland. But in what areas of peoples lives is there the potential for Crossroads to intersect with?

I think our community needs more an environmental focus from an architectural perspective. No more cookie cutter neighborhoods with houses 6 feet apart. Let's get creative and use natural aesthetics with neighborhood gathering places, parks and green spaces. Let's put an emphasis on natural community and less on scheduled event community. I sit on my back patio every night with houses all around me and no one to talk to because everyone is privacy fenced in.....
I amazed at how many people actually use a dog park. I wonder what would happen if we built one on property-
I love the idea of people in the church teaching other people what they know- whether its about how to tile, or how to do first aid care, or how to grow a garden-
and im not anonymous

I also wanted to say one of the coolest things that came out of the 'Lucy came early' fiasco was one saturday a bunch of people from church came over and helped us fix up our house. I think if we made people aware of needs like that, even just in our church community, it would be a great way for people to use their gifts and become better connected.
