Two important questions

Seriously important questions. Earth-shakingly important.

Is it acceptable to put ketchup on scrambled eggs?

Where is ketchup acceptable in your diet?

I'm not a big fan of ketchup on scrambled eggs but some people swear by it. Eggs benefit the most from salt, pepper, and Tabasco. I've heard recently of some people putting A1 sauce on eggs. I'm gonna try that the next time I have scrambled eggs.

Ketchup belongs on french fries, hash browns, and the occasional hamburger. Outside of those items or as a base for barbecue sauce or meatloaf sauces I can't think of many other places where ketchup is acceptable. I used to eat it on hot dogs, but have recently decided that is a sin.

Tell me your thoughts on ketchup.

French fries, onion rings or as a sauce on burgers if real tomatoes aren't available. Also, an ingredient in meat loaf or BBQ sauce.
My wife will dip her steak in it (argh!!). That's all. No more uses.

And one more thing.... never, ever, ever refrigerated!

1) Is it acceptable to put ketchup on scrambled eggs?

It depends. At home, yes. Your local diner, sure-why not. In a place with a sensitive chef? No way! I'm with you...salt, pepper, tobasco with a little cream and mustard added in the preparation. Sometimes cheddar cheese is OK, but not the fake cheese sauce.

2) Tell me your thoughts on ketchup.

I like it on french fries unless there is gravy for them. Onion rings, hash browns, and deli potato cakes. (I have a friend who puts ketchup on her mashed potatoes too), hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, meatloaf, cocktail sauce, sloppy joes. That's about all.

Are you particular about the *kind* of ketchup you eat? I won't eat just any. If it's not my favorite brand I'd rather go without or find an alternative.

I forgot onion rings and as a base for cocktail sauce.

I never realized I preferred a certain brand of ketchup until earlier this year. I had Kroger brand in my fridge. Sara expressed her disgust. I told her she was crazy, that ketchup was ketchup. Then I did a taste test and realized she was right. Heinze is the only way to go.

Also, I've been reading lately how overseas the ketchup has sugar in it as opposed to the American version that sweetens with High Fructose Corn Syrup. Apparently you can buy ketchup over here without the HFCS, though. Anybody ever try the syrup free variety?

Things that I put ketchup on (other than the before mentioned):

1. Roast Beef
2. Chicken Nuggets
3. Baked Potato
4. Steak
5. Anything that I don't really like the taste of.

Yes, ketchup overseas definitely has a different taste and it varies by location (Asia vs Europe). I always chalked it up to different tomato brands and different company recipes. Never did research it.

btw, thought of one item that hasn't been listed yet, but for which ketchup is essential.... tater tots.

And since we're on the subject.... is there any significance to ketchup vs. 'catsup'?

gravy is the best topping for fries (learned that in Montreal). Ketchup will also work, ocassionally mustard is good on fries. often eggs need ketchup, tabasco has too much vinegar to add good flavor.

I don't usually eat ketchup except for the occasional fast food burger. The last time someone asked for ketchup at my house, I found a bottle in the back of the fridge that had turned brown. Needless to say, it went in the trash.

i would have to say i grew up putting ketchup on my rice. i have since grown out of that but now have my children carry on the tradition (it is the only way they eat rice!).

by the way, the only thing good on fries is vinegar! what can say, i'm from northeastern ohio.

I hate ketchup, it is disgusting and should be outlawed in all 50 states!

Yum...ketchup. I am a big fan. Definitely on eggs, french fries, tater tots, baked potatoes, onion rings, hamburgers, hash browns. My boyfriend's family makes fun of me because I love ketchup with pot roast instead of gravy. I used to put it on green beans too but now am outta that habit.

Ketchup works for me on:
- Fries/Tots/Onion Rings (although I usually swap for BBQ sauce, honey mustard or something else here)
- Burgers
- Brats
- Hotdogs
- Meatloaf
- and as a base for other sauces

Never gone that specific direction on eggs, but will use salsa or even syrup if there are waffles/pancakes/french toast on the plate too.

I'd vote ketchup over catsup.

Here's another question- do you prefer it refrigerated (like at home) or room temp (at restaurants)?

I never realized I cared about the temp of ketchcup, but now that you mention it, I think I do prefer it to be room temp.

I'm fond of eggs. I'm fond of ketchup. If they were the same temperature, I'd see no problem mixing them. I hear people asking "why eat ketchup by itself?" Well, I like ketchup, don't I? I also eat french fries saltless, but that doesn't phase anyone.

I use a small amount of ketchup on
scrambled eggs, it really is good.

However, I will admitt I love it
on onion rings & french fries. a
bottle of ketchup lasts me forever
we so rarely use it.

But don't forget to...eat mor chickin!!!

Just a bit of trivia for you,
do you know that each small pack
of ketchup at mcdonald's costs
them 3cents each. that is why
you have to ask for it and they
sometimes give it out very
sparingly.

You freaks sure do like ketchup/catsup. But, then again, God loves all sinners!! :)

I'm remaining anonymous because I'm scared of the very powerful ketchup lobby hurting my loved ones. I've grown accustomed to their knees being intact.
